Register: ICT and Hong Kong Industries -- The Next Decade (IT Matters 2007 Forum) March 30 2007

Hong Kong is undergoing an economic structural transformation that is critically important to our future. Its tighter integration with the mainland economy, the escalating forces of globalization, and the mounting pressure to discover and sharpen our identity as a city community, are acting together to reshape our industry landscape.

Hong Kong's ICT industry is leading the way in many of the changes occurring in our economy. It has played and will continue to play pivotal roles supporting our key economic sectors. The success of our trade, logistics and financial services industries can be partly attributed to their progressive use of ICT. Our highly efficient public transportation systems and the various public services are relying heavily on the innovative applications of ICT in serving our citizens.

In this coming decade, the Hong Kong ICT industry is expected to assume an expanded role and to make more significant contributions to the economic growth of the region. In addition to its traditional functions supporting many of our key industry sectors, the regional ICT industry is destined to evolve into an important economic contributor standing on its own. Indisputably, ICT is one of the most important industry sectors of a knowledge-based economy that Hong Kong is transforming into.

We are honored to have invited a team of prominent business leaders, renowned scholars and international industry experts to share with us their visions into the future of the ICT industry.
