Legco panel hearing on copyright amendment proposals

I represented the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation today to present the industry view on the "preliminary proposals on various copyright-related issues" to the meeting of the Commerce and Industry Panel of the Legislative Council. The written submission from HKITF can be downloaded from here.

In addition, HKITF's response to the related public con sultation earlier in the year, "Review of Certain Provisions of Copyright Ordinance," from the Intellectual Property Department, can be downloaded from here.

Basically, we are disappointed and deeply concerned with the Government's decision not to include directors' liabilities among the proposed amendment, while at the same time further weaken the legislation by proposing statutory defence for employees. This will send the wrong message to the public and the international community about IP rights enforcement in Hong Kong.
